My breath comes back slowly, but each one is tinged with a stab of pain. Tryin’ to feel out where it is, I touch my ribs, my side, an’ it comes back wet. Red. Blood. My blood? Has to be. I look up at Zeph an’ try to stand, but the pain makes me stumble an’ pull on ‘im. “Fuckkkk,” I hiss through gritted teeth, followed quickly by a barely audible “Aye -”
I decide to sit and scoot back as quickly as I can, mostly on my unhurt side, pushing my way through the damp sand. Hearin’ Zeph’s mutter about useful god shit, I pause and look up (as if that were helpful, like an idiot) an’ scream, “Yeah, we could ues a little help here!” And then, as a bit of an afterthought, because situations like this aren’t exactly full’a pleasantries, I add, “Please.”
