Rance had heard a little about the Long Night, but only in context of needing to get things prepared. This was his first time hearing detailed reasons for what they were preparing for and it sent a shiver down his spine. Monsters that ravaged not just the buildings to try and drag out prey, but twisted one's mind to lure their targets out to them? The very idea made him glad that he was traveling to Torchline for the last part of the season.
Oh, there was the fact that he wouldn't do well being cooped up for a week with the others sheltering from the monsters, but that was minor compared to the fact that, if that shelter was breached, he'd have no realistic escape. Already his over-active imagination was creating and discarding scenarios that, thankfully, he would never have to use.
