He was so determined to look down in himself, to reject her attempts to cheer him up, and it saddened her more than she could say. But though she was half tempted to grab him by the shoulders and just shake him, Maea kept her chin up. Wasn't sure it was a better option, but... they had done enough damage to each other for one day.
She did sigh though, and rub the back of her neck with a blood-flecked hand. "It's not... I don't think it has anything to do with being deserving," she said. "If you can't think of it as a reward, then... just say it's a goal to work towards?"
Looking him over, she considered his feeble assurance that he wouldn't try to kill himlself again. Pursing her lips, Maea shrugged. "Can you really blame me for being concerned, after what you just did? If it's all the same to you, I'll just do it anyway. And if it bothers you, then... just prove to me you won't do anything reckless. And maybe I'll believe you."
