The guardian was dead. Jigano's dragon bulk remained in front of the well where he had pushed the summoned creature, knowing damn well that it was Loren's handiwork. Only Loren wasn't there, which meant Wessex had done so, ignoring his attempt to find a way for them to end things peacefully. He had barely begun to bow his head over the fallen defender when he felt the ripple of energies that had struck him before, presaging Wessex's attack.
She had killed the snake, as cold-bloodedly as she had killed the Fae, and Jigano's blood was up and pounding now as he roared and turned to continue blocking the portal with his body, snapping at the murderous Queen with an ice-cold rage that burned in his throat, determined to stop the source of those painful pulses - and the murderer of an increasing body count.
