And I knew if I came to you before I made the report…” Jude huffs a laugh that’s too hollow to be amused, eyes dropping away from her to stare at his pale knuckles once more. “I’m already under suspicion by being involved. I couldn’t do that to you.” It’s why he’d also involved himself in his report more than the truth should have. If anyone takes the fall, he prays it’s him, not Edmund. To have that suspicion cast upon Sohalia, the Heart of Stormbreak? For them to even question if she had helped cover it up if it ever came to light, even if she was only there to hold his hand while he made his report?
No, Jude had refused the idea of that. He had to protect her too.
