Evie
Did you ever love her? Do you know?
His stubbornness is a familiar comfort, though it makes her shake her head, smiling wryly all the same. Evie may not weigh much - and certainly even less when measured up against Deimos' strength - but she still resents the idea of him carrying her all the way home in the snow. Still, she trusts him to take care of her no matter what he chooses.
The rest is all very anti-climactic. Painful in a way that magic can't fix, but otherwise simple in how these threads come to an end. Evie has never forced herself past this physical brink, and it goes against every notion of self-preservation that the human body has built into the very stonework of its cells to do so. Sweat breaks out on her forehead, her skin goes hot then cold, and her hands go clammy. But then - finally - she feels the last rattling breath escape Josef's lungs. Feels the heartbeat tied to her magic go silent. Her soul cries out in simultaneous grief and relief that she has done it, that she has assured a comfortable end for her patient, but her body collapses down in abject relief that the deed is done. Evie slumps forward, and her consciousness winks out seconds later.

Or did you just never want to be alone?
