There was a fair bit of cursing from Maea as she struggled with the bats. It had little effect of course, other than to finally loosen her tongue a bit. As she returned to see what could be salvaged of the work already done and repairing the rest, she stole a glance towards Varus. A streakof white splotched her cheek, and there was goo in her hair she really hoped was plaster.
"Do you get a lot of recruits, these days? Or is everyone too scared of the war to play soldier?" It was all the militia had ever been in the past; self-important youths who spent their time flexing and bragging until they grew up enough. Various generals - Deimos among them - had since put different casts onto the job, and Maea was rather curious to know what things looked like right now.
