Jack isn't the type to say it out loud, but he can certainly think it - that he's sort of glad to have Melita along because she's disgustingly strong disguised in a small package. It means that he's most certainly ready when she is, and she's doing most of (read: all of) the heavy lifting as they stir the box from the sand.
Jack feels the flare of a presence in the water and he's already releasing his end of the box so he can decide whether or not to stamp on the retreating tentacles - just as a head pops up above the water.
"The fuck you did," he informs the boy, nodding to Melita as if to tell her to keep hauling it out of the water. "You found somethin' that didn't belong to you. Sucks to be you, kid. Now fuck off."
