Maeve

Hotaru could have told her to meet her at the top of the Draig Cordillera and Maeve would have been there. Dragons be damned. Instead the request is an easier one. The only thing that slows her is the chill in the air and the snow on the ground, but she's learned how to prepare better for the cold. Thanks to Hotaru. The lessons from their first formal meeting not forgotten. The Nightshade draws her coat more tightly around her, drawing herself deeper into the scarf around her neck, cheeks and nose already pink from the snow.

Her heart feels as if it's in her throat. Skin too tight and stomach twisted into knots. Somehow despite the freezing temperatures her palms still manage to sweat, a trembling in her fingers that she can't seem to still, but she tries. Maeve's boots crunch through the snow and Aidon flies above her, casting a dark shadow across the shore, the dark scales of his underbelly standing out against the sky above him. His reassurance runs along the bond, bolstering her as she presses forward, jade eyes scanning the shoreline for golden hair that will surely be glinting in the early morning sunlight.

The breath she was taking catches in her throat at the sight of her. Even just her silhouette against horizon is enough to make her steps falter, nerves twisting in her belly and tightening her chest with an ache she's not expecting. The blooms held in her hands feel silly now. Some of the last flowers from her garden picked and arranged with care. Still, she clutches onto them more tightly, pressing forward until she's only a yard or so away. "Ru.." Her voice threatens to break and waver, but she draws in a shaky breath in an attempt to still her nerves. "Thank you for seeing me." It feels strangely formal, but it's the only place she knows to start.
'Cause it's too cold for you here and now
so let me hold both your hands in the holes of my sweater
