Nikolai might not have known it, but he was speaking to a kindred soul, one who also hated social interaction and all it's various ins and outs; Sam would not judge the man for any awkwardness, mostly because he was too busy cringing at his own.

Sam laughed and rubbed the back of his neck, still a little embarrassed about how quickly it had been obvious that he wasn't going to get anywhere; he recovered quickly though, leaning in and pulling out a pair of glasses from his pocket. They were broken, a cracked lens and a bent arm, but he held them as if they were precious gems. "These glasses I have...they let you translate things. Sometimes. It's useful for when I find old text. I'd love to find out the magic that makes them work so I can reproduce it."
Sweeping away chunks of pumpkin innards for the time being, Sam nodded at the mention of the Relics. "Yes...I wasn't there for the announcement, but I know of it. Have you learnt anything?"
