Nate let’s put a long breath, nodding while he does. “Yes.” He agrees. “Thats exactly how it works. It’s not fair.” These are things Nate says as simply as if he were describing the weather. The sun is shining, there’s a cool breeze coming in off the sea, and you have lost all of my trust.
“But you still did it.” Nate drops the words sullenly, then clenches his jaw against the tremble of emotion. It’s better to get this out, better to cauterize the wound without any poison inside it. “I let you come back to me again and again, and you didn’t even say anything to me before you left. I came and found you! And you,” Nate growls, all of him shifting restlessly, “you stole my fucking coat!”
