regions of moonlight and chaos
As in all her ideas, Melita thought it would be brilliant to meander towards Stormbreak during LongNight. Who wouldn’t want to hunt void creatures when it was constantly pitch black out?

Chaos and all that, right? Right.

Skipping along as if she was thoroughly unbothered (mostly true – she’d be stupid not to hold a little dread over the current situation and the particular end of this season was always a bit of a downer), followed closely by her companions, her eyes flickered along the row of city buildings, narrowing into gilded slits as she honed in on particular facets. Finding nothing in particular, she turned back to the other accompanying her while she got her weaponry ready, wondering if it would be worthwhile to swing a staff at a void creature and batter it over the head. “Anything you want to look for?”

Hadama might have been less eager to leave Torchline during LongNight, but in weighing the risks and benefits he had made the choice to leave the region in Flora's capable hands and to join Melita in bringing them one step closer to completing their regional quest from Vi.

Besides, it had been far too long since he had seen the Honeybee outside of group meetings, and it was a good chance to offer his congratulations on becoming Ludo's demigod.

He had no companions, but he followed in the young woman's wake, scanning their dark surroundings much as she did. The lights of Stormbreak could only do so much against the pervading dark, but it was better than nothing. "A shadow serpent egg would be easiest. Or a corrupted Messenger or Mata Mata," he rumbled quietly. Something small enough to fit in the covered cage he carried in one hand. "Over there-- did you see it?"

A flicker of shadowed scales, nearly invisible in the darkness but for the glints of amethyst glowing in its eyes, caught a bit of light from the gates and then vanished behind a jumble of piled stones.

Melita wouldn’t know where to start on Hadama and demigodhood – especially under Safrin, whom she had many implications with, considering Sunjata’s…journey. Instead, she opted to ignore the subject entirely, swinging her staff around, listening all the while. An egg would be easiest but a bit boring, so she pondered over the other two things.

Scales though – that could prove interesting.

Her eyes narrowed again, taking in the brief and subtle movements nearby. Nodding in the dark, she whispered in return. “I can send Sila or Fangorn after it to flush it out?” Then she could shoot it Then she could bop it over the head! Plans and stuff.

Likely surprising no one, Hadama was quietly hoping for the boring option of an egg. The chance of finding a nest during LongNight, however, made it unlikely to happen, and the cage was large enough to hold either corrupted raven or tainted snakebird safe within its slender but strong steel bars. As much as he might wish for something that was too young to be a threat, he was pragmatic enough to plan for something that very much could be a risk on their trip home.

Scales were not quite the last thing that he had hoped to see, but they were better than shuffling around in the dark for hours on end, trying not to fall off of the floating city-island. Hadama listened to Melita's plan and nodded. "Yes," he agreed, just as softly. "I will get the cage ready." If she could stun their prey even momentarily they could knock it into its prison and slam the door before it had a chance to properly retaliate.

While she conveyed their intentions to her companions, he knelt and unlocked the cage's door, opening it wide and pointed towards where they'd seen the scales so it would be ready to receive its new inhabitant.

Sila, though apprehensive and shy in most moments, had taken great lengths under Melita’s tutelage of simply being brave, adventurous, and ridiculous. So at the communication along bonds, the bronze dragon nodded, narrowed eyes seeing far better in the dark than either of the humans. Fangorn grumbled and waved his vines around, as if providing another signal (or maybe he could grab it with them?), before the young lizard set aloft.

Chasing down prey smaller and flightier than her presented another challenge, but she was game, and no sooner had she screeched and torn around bushes, did the Stygian scales slide forth, from under the cover of branches and bramble. “Nice,” Melita whispered, staging the ultimate takedown as she raised her staff – intending to bonk the creature as it zoomed by and hissed in her direction.

The small Abyssal Mata Mata had perhaps been chased out of the Grotto by larger, stronger denizens. It looked like the runt of its nest as Sila hunted and harried it into view. Inky black feathers were tattered and it moved as though injured as it slithered and flapped to evade her fierce advance.

It wasn't that it didn't see Melita and Hadama, but Fangorn's waving vines were a distraction that it had not been prepared for and it squawked in outrage as one nearly caught its tail. There was a moment where it hung still, caught between its forward momentum and its mad flapping scramble to back away from the glowing-eyed gourd, and that was when Melita's staff struck it with a solid bonk upon its noggin.

A tiny squeak of air was knocked from its beak and it fell flat on the ground, wings flapping weakly as it tried to continue its escape on instinct though it was too dazed to pick a direction.

Hadama stepped forward to quickly scoop it into the cage and lock the door before giving his fellow demigod a nod of gratitude for her unerring aim. "Home?" he asked of the fiery-haired Honeybee.

All three, including herself, were quite proud of themselves as the very weak and pathetic Mata Mata was felled. Enacting a Cheshire grin in the moonlight, she hummed lightly to herself, skipping along before putting her staff away. With the young creature scooped up in Hadama’s cage, there was not much else to do; she had no inclinations of wandering around Stormbreak during LongNight. Maybe when the sun was up or something.

“Home,” she reiterated, and they’d be able to walk their way towards the skyships once more – her eyes ignoring the wake of the cliffs that had once been alive.
