It wasn't new anymore to be making plans for the future together, but it still sent a little thrill through Tal's chest to realize that it was real and not a dream. To beautify their home, and to make it even better year after year to come...

It warmed Tal right down to his toes so that the cool air of the Leafchange evening couldn't even touch him. Not when his partner was by his side and her hand was curled, warm and strong, around his own.

The look he gave her was bright and grateful as she already began to plan out their Flowerbirth garden, but his eyes lingered on the dreamy expression on her face. His own took on a look of dazed bemusement, smitten anew at how luminous she was in the witchy light of sunset and lanterns, fey and beautiful and mysterious as his best dream. "Yeah..." he agreed rather dreamily himself, and would have been content to spend the rest of the night feeling like the luckiest guy on Caido just to be sitting next to her until her teasing brought him back to the moment with a fresh grin on his face.

"Oh, you definitely can," he hurried to assure her. "I can spend a couple more days 'afore I need to start th'next run. Unless I can entice you t'come with me again? It's been awhile," he admitted, mostly teasing but a touch rueful. "I never sleep as good on th'Peregrine anymore as I did when you were with me on 'er."

And I can still see it all in my mind
All of you, all of me intertwined
Happiness permeated the air around them, and for Alys, it was a welcome change. It wasn't that she had been unhappy - after all, her shop was thriving, and her clientele was growing, and by any measure, things were going quite well for the seer. It was just that it was easier to celebrate her victories with Tal beside her. It helped that the picnic was a welcome distraction from all of the questions and fear swirling around Caido at present. Here, now, she didn't have to worry about Void creatures and the Family and broadcasts into her head. She could simply be, and that brought her a measure of peace that had been difficult to find in recent weeks.

They sat for a moment in comfortable silence, dreaming of their future, until Alys broke the spell with her gentle teasing. Tal responded in kind, though there was a touch of truth in it. And Alys was sorely tempted to say yes. She could, after all, be a seer whether she was here or there or everywhere. She could build her clientele across Caido just as easily as she could specifically in King's End. For that matter, it might be better to build a larger customer base.

But then, who would watch the shop?

She pursed her lips in thought. "Well, I did finally find an assistant to help run the shop," she mused aloud, turning over her thoughts as she spoke. "She's not quite ready to take over the day-to-day yet, but she's learning quickly. Maybe... if things go well with her, then maybe..." She trailed off. "If there's someone to run the shop, and I could schedule time to come home for my tarot clients, I don't see why I couldn't come with you. I miss those days," she admitted ruefully. "I love our home, and I'm proud of the shop, but I think I was happier when we were traveling togehter."

He'd been teasing - well, mostly teasing - but he could tell by the way her lips formed that cute little bow and the dimple appeared between her brows that she wasn't brushing it off as just a joke. It was enough for Tal to hold his breath, a sudden and unexpected surge of hope in his chest that he firmly tried to quash. The last thing he wanted to do was pressure his partner, and he groped after some cheese to nibble on to keep his mouth busy so she could think things over in peace.

It didn't stop him from perking up, straightening a little as she explained about her assistant. Which led to other options that would have had his tail wagging if he'd been an Attuned, and finally a big grin as she talked herself into joining him again. Maybe not yet, but soon!

He squeezed her hand again, then hesitated a moment before leaning forward to press his forehead to hers, bumping their noses gently together. "I love havin' a home to come back to," he assured his partner, his voice warm with sincerity. "Most o' all because you're there. But I'd love havin' you with me even more. An' we'll be back home every couple o' weeks t'tend th'garden and check up on everyone!" Just because they'd be spending most of their time traveling didn't mean they couldn't enjoy their house regularly, too!

Truth be told, the hiring of an assistant had been, at least in part, a decision intended to allow Alys to focus more on providing her services as a seer than to be a shopkeeper, as proud as she was of her shop. And while she had originally thought that her services would expand within the confines of King's End, it almost made more sense, from a business perspective, to branch out to new areas and attract more clients from across the world.

Of course, traveling alongside her partner would be an added bonus - one that sent warmth and excitement racing through her veins. She was rewarded for her musings with a big grin from Tal - one that she answered happily as he leaned in to bump their noses together. She closed her eyes, savoring the press of his forehead against hers, squeezing the hand she still held. "Then it's settled," she murmured. "If all goes well, perhaps we can plan for Flowerbirth?" It wasn't as soon as she would like, but it wasn't too far away, either.

This was all he had never realized he wanted from the world, held in this one perfect moment. The unfurling night breathed a soft chill over them but the light of their lanterns and the stars above were warm. Warmer still was his partner beside him, her hand in his and her forehead touching his own with a quiet, trusting intimacy that left no room for the demons of his self-doubt or racing thoughts.

Here, now, with Alys, he was enough. And while they were together they could take on the world.

"Flowerbirth," he agreed happily. "We'll get th'yard cleaned up an' get the garden started, an' then if your assistant is ready t'run things on her own for a bit, we can fly t'gether again."

There was other food in the picnic basket still: small pasties filled with meat and vegetables, still warm by the time they got to them. A pair of berry tarts were tucked into the bottom of the basket, sweet and tart with flaky pastry crusts that complimented the light wine. The dinner lingered long after the last light of sunset had faded from the sky as the two ate together, sometimes in silence and sometimes murmuring more plans for the future. Their companions eventually wandered back to nap on the spare pillows until the lanterns burned low and it was time to go home.

Home. To the house they'd built and the place they'd made for each other in the world.

Together.
